Travel Insurance
Swinburne offers our students free travel insurance, through Chubb Insurance. This insurance covers you for a maximum of 180 days (regardless of the length of your internship), so you should be able to squeeze in some travel before or after your internship! There are a few things you need to be aware of about our insurance- there is a $500 excess for non-medical claims, there are some high-risk activities you aren’t covered for, and if you are an international student returning to your home country, you won’t be covered for the medical aspect of the policy. Please take a good look at all the insurance information here to find out what you are and aren’t covered for.

Passport
If you don’t already have one, you will need to have a passport that is valid for at least 6 months after your planned RETURN date to Australia. Start your passport application soon if this is you! If you have, or can claim, a dual passport from another country, it might be worth looking into as it could save you from getting a visa – check in with your internship provider if you think this is relevant for you.

Visas
It’s likely that the country you are planning to intern in may require you to hold a visa. Your internship provider will guide you through this process, but please make sure you follow instructions and work with them to get your visa sorted before you depart. Please note that the visa may require an appointment with the consulate or biometrics, so it’s important not to depart too early. You need to be aware of the timings of your visa, when you are allowed to arrive in the country and when you have to depart after your internship. If you plan to visit any other countries before or after, it is your responsibility to check if visas are required, and obtain them if necessary.
